The park boasts about 50 species of arctic animals and more than 200 individual animals in their natural habitats. Most modern kids have never seen a real life wolf, leave alone a bear. Years of city dwelling is turning kids into ignorant adults who have no idea why the environmentalist are so livid when their country's leaders fail to drive the conservation campaign with some commitment.

In this age of tech gizmos, junk food, social media, 3D games and movies, a smart parent would want to reduce the risk of his children turning into 'geeks' that are made fun of in school, 'couch potatoes' that sit before the TV set all day or unsocialized, obese with cruel attitude by having them out to the Ranua Wildlife Park.

Kids can learn early the essence of conserving the environment. Bringing up kids into responsible adults is a herculean task, but it starts with small efforts such as visiting parks.

The Ranua Wildlife Park was opened in 1983. It is strategically nestled in Ranua Municipality in the Lapland region of Finland. It is the northern most wildlife park in the world and it features animals such as Eurasian Lynx, wolves, foxes, brown bears, dears among others.

It is amazing how these animals survive the hostile weather conditions while humans cannot last one hour of exposure in the same terrain and weather. This forms a good lesson with which to train kids the virtues of determination, learning survival skills, and staying put no matter the situation.

The animals reproduce during winter and feed during summer. By bringing your kids to the park, you are advancing their biology classes in a 'fun' way. Trust me, biology classes can be boring if you cannot put head to tail on what the teacher is talking about. You can be sure that your kids will learn the lesson easily if they have seen the real thing.

Getting off your busy schedule once in a while and taking your family on fun-day-outs is good for the family cohesion. Close knit families always overcome their issues and are therefore happier. Why don’t you cultivate this closeness with a visit to the Ranua wildlife park?
